PROJECT OVERVIEW
Active Refrigeration worked closely with Alliance Group to deliver a high-temperature ammonia heat pump and heat recovery system at its Mataura processing plant, helping reduce reliance on fossil fuels for hot water generation. The system recovers heat from the site’s refrigeration operation and river water, producing hot water at approximately 70–75°C while significantly reducing demand on the existing coal-fired boiler. As part of a wider programme across three southern Alliance sites, these projects are reducing carbon emissions by approximately 25,000 tonnes of CO₂ each year, demonstrating the environmental and economic value of industrial heat recovery.
“We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved with these heat pump projects alongside Active Refrigeration. I think they’ve delivered great environmental outcomes and economic outcomes, which is good for New Zealand industry.”
