Industrial Refrigeration Upgrade for Poultry Processing in Rolleston
Active Refrigeration has successfully delivered a fully customised refrigeration solution for Van den Brink Poultry in Rolleston, reinforcing a long-standing partnership built on reliability, innovation and performance. Designed with safety, efficiency and seamless site integration in mind, this project demonstrates how modern refrigeration technology can support high-demand food production environments without disrupting operations.
Tailored Refrigeration Design for Poultry Processing
Every processing facility has unique operational requirements, and this project was no exception. Active Refrigeration worked closely with Van den Brink Poultry to design a bespoke industrial refrigeration system that aligned with their production processes and site layout. From initial concept through to commissioning, collaboration ensured the system would integrate smoothly into existing workflows.
A key priority throughout the project was maintaining uninterrupted production. Careful planning and staged implementation allowed the new system to be installed and commissioned without impacting day-to-day operations, a critical factor in the food processing industry.
Advanced Ammonia Refrigeration System
The new system provides low-temperature ammonia to two plate freezers and a freezer room. The medium temperature ammonia is used for chilled glycol and chilled water circuits, which provide cooling across multiple stages of the production process.
The use of ammonia not only improves system efficiency but also significantly reduces environmental impact compared to traditional refrigerants.
Glycol Cooling for Efficient Heat Transfer
A central feature of the system is the glycol recirculation network. Chilled glycol is distributed throughout the facility, delivering precise temperature control to various production areas. This approach enhances operational flexibility and ensures consistent cooling performance across the site.
Reducing Environmental Impact with Low GWP Refrigerants
One of the most significant outcomes of this upgrade is the removal of multiple ageing refrigeration systems that relied on high Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants. Replacing these systems with ammonia-based technology represents a major step forward in sustainability.
Removing high GWP refrigerants from the site not only reduces the environmental footprint of the facility but also aligns with evolving industry standards and regulatory expectations. This future-focused approach ensures the site remains compliant and environmentally responsible.
Ongoing Maintenance and System Performance
To support long-term reliability, Active Refrigeration has partnered with Van den Brink Poultry to implement a comprehensive maintenance programme. Regular servicing and proactive system management will ensure the refrigeration system continues to operate at peak performance.
This ongoing support not only protects the investment but also helps maintain safety standards and energy efficiency over time.
Delivering Reliable, Energy-Efficient Refrigeration Solutions
This project highlights Active Refrigeration’s capability to deliver customised industrial refrigeration systems that meet the demanding needs of food production facilities. By combining advanced ammonia technology, efficient system design and careful project execution, the result is a robust, future-ready solution.
For poultry processors and other food manufacturers, investing in modern refrigeration infrastructure is essential for maintaining product quality, operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.
